Nioh 2 takes place in feudal Japan, similar to sekiro, but you play as a shiftling, a half human half yokai hybrid. After seeing your mother being killed by an enigmatic yokai in the form of an old man, you end up hunting down yokai until you receive a note to meet someone in a village. You continue to make ties with new characters, taking on more and more dangerous missions along the way, all while the mystery of the yokai that killed your mother hangs over everyone.

The story is actually extremely good for a souls like game, a lot of souls like games tend to have little in the way of obvious story. The decent story is matched with an unparralled combat to make a game that had me addictively playing for almost a month. There are eleven weapons types in Nioh 2, with combat having three stances that have their own combos. The high, mid, and low stance are all used for different circumstances. High stance lets you do massive stamina damage but usually has slow attacks, mid revolving around guarding and defense, and low stance revolving around fast attacks and dodging.

The weapons are just the tip of the iceburg so to speak, since each weapon has its own skill tree and levels. Along with each weapons skill tree, there are also four general skill trees, magic, ninjutsu, samurai, and shiftling. Each of these four skill trees excel in something different: samurai has to do with melee combat, ninjutsu are martial abilities and technology, magic are talismans and abilities that can conjure up the elements or summon familiars, and shiftling enhances your shiftling form.

Nioh 2 has way too much for me to explain here, even having played three hundred hours so far, I still have been learning new things. Games are always more fun with friends, and with this game, the fun is multiplied probably tenfold. I definitely can see myself playing Nioh 2 even more in the future, especially considering I just unlocked a new game mechanic now after finishing the game four times.
